Your time is a precious gift, and will make a difference to the thousands of men, women and children experiencing homelessness in our city. Following is a unique volunteer opportunity to support the homeless.
This summer, Baltimore will be hosting its first Project Homeless Connect on August 2, 2012. The mission of Baltimore Project Homeless Connect is to provide a single location where multidisciplinary service providers collaborate to serve and empower people who are homeless and at risk of homelessness. We especially need support in the following areas:
- Organizations that can provide event-day services to homeless people (e.g. a barbershop or a day care center.)
- Organizations or people that can donate/collect and store goods (e.g. clothing and hygiene items) that could be distributed on the day of the event.
- Sponsorships for the event.
There are also volunteer opportunities available the day of the event.

The Mayor’s Office of Human Services, United Way of Central Maryland, KPMG and Beta Alpha Psi are partnering with local providers to hold this resource day for homeless individuals or those who are at risk of becoming homeless. Project Homeless Connect is a national model that has been replicated in more than 260 cities across the U.S. During the event, volunteers act as one-on-one guides for homeless individuals as they navigate an array of services, including everything from housing to haircuts to health insurance.
The 2011 biennial Point-in-Time homelessness survey counted 4,088 individuals who were homeless on a single night in Baltimore City. Through events like Project Homeless Connect and the various stakeholders of The Journey Home, Baltimore City’s 10 year plan to end homelessness, we are working together to make homelessness rare and brief. We hope that you will support us at any monetary amount or through an in-kind donation. Donors will be recognized on the volunteer t-shirts, signage and on all printed materials for the event.
